Holiday Market
The Women of the Bauhaus
December 3 – December 23, 2022

Kalon’s holiday shop puts its focus on the women of the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College. Refugees, educators, poets, potters, painters and performers, these women found a way to make space for themselves within institutions and movements where women’s voices were (and still are) largely absent. The collections we have on display are an ode to the enduring inspiration of these women and the power of the work they created.

This special offering of giftable items includes our newly released wooden Tableware inspired by work done by Mim Sihvonen, handprinted table and bed linens inspired by the women of the Bauhaus by Studio Ford, and beautiful handcrafted bronze accessories for the table by Ramsey Conder.

The Holiday Shop opens on Saturday, December 3rd, 2pm-4pm at the Kalon Showroom.

Studio Ford
Inspired by the legendary women of the Bauhaus, Studio Ford’s Interwoven collection draws from the geometric patterns and color play associated with the work of: Anni Albers, Otti Berger, Beneita Kock-Otta and Gunta Stölzl. The collection includes hand dyed bed linens, table linens and pillows with natural cotton fill. Timeless, rhythmic, and imperfect, each design is inspired by the rhythmic patterns found in art, architecture, and nature. First designed in California, textiles are then traditionally printed by hand in Jaipur, India.

Ramsey Conder
The work of Ramsey Conder draws on inspiration that ranges from the sleek lines of the automobile, to the poetic irregularity of the natural world. Throughout a varied career, Conder’s output has included to everything from furniture and lighting to cups and even toilet brush stands. Conder uses solely solid materials – gold, brass, bronze, steel, wood, and leather – and creates by sand casting and lost wax casting methods. Time and loving wear lends both a complex patina, and an evolving narrative to all his work.
